Hi, I’m Alysson.
I am a licensed mental health therapist (LH 60998489) working in Washington state. I received my Masters in Counseling through the University of Victoria in British Columbia, where I also did my undergrad in teaching.
I began working in schools, on a First Nation reserve and in community mental health for the first five years after I graduated with my MA. I am now nearly ten years in to a private practice while I have had three kids and have moved from Canada to the Snoqualmie Valley in Washington state. I have been trained with a focus on trauma and healing through narrative therapy (being able to tell your story and work with your emotions), and have done additional training in pychoanalysis, dream and art therapy.
I bring empathy, humor and honesty to our work together. From my experience, healing and growing takes consistent time together (meeting weekly) and connecting the conscious, everyday parts of our lives to the unconscious patterns we have established.
There is no quick-fix, but there is relief in developing an understanding for your context and being with your experiences together. I aim to listen with you to the layers of your story and provide the space for you to grow your relationship with yourself.
Areas of Specialty
Anxiety
Are you on edge, persistently worried, or experiencing panic attacks? Therapy can bring relief and help you recognize your triggers and create a plan with practical tools for how to work with your anxiety.
Depression
Are you feeling unmotivated, hopeless, or angry? We can work together to unpack where these thoughts come from and help build rythmns and rituals to connect you to yourself, your loved ones and your place in the world again.
Trauma
Trauma, and dealing with the effects of PTSD, can be debilitating. We will work together to see your experience of trauma (historical, physical, emotional, sexual, spiritual) and build a sense of safety once more.
Life Transitions
Are you in the middle of changing jobs, relationships, locations? Transitions are an incredible time to reassess your values and establish goals.
Maternal mental health
No matter what your role in care-giving, it is a tumultuous ride. I care deeply about maternal mental health and have a wide definition of “maternal”. The transition and birth of yourself in a new way is filled with complications and choices. Non judgmental support as you navigate this space can help you process and prepare for this role.
Adolescents
I enjoy working with young adults navigating the challenges of friendships, expanding independence, making decisions about what to do next, etc.
